Our Quaint Farm
Rhythm and Balance Farm is conveniently located in the heart of Aiken’s horse country, just a straight shot down Charleston Highway—only 18 minutes from Downtown Aiken. Our central location also makes us a short, easy drive to many show venues: 15 minutes from Bruce’s Field and The Vista, 30 minutes from Stable View, and just 15 minutes from nearby communities such as Three Runs Plantation, Bridle Creek, Hatchaway Bridge Farms, and Wagener. We like to say we’ve become a little spoiled, rarely venturing outside what we fondly call the “Donut of Aiken.”
Family-owned and operated by mother-daughter team Shirley Rumpel and Katie Erpel, our farm sits on 10 meticulously maintained acres. We offer 8 stalls, each with its own safe turnout paddock secured with no-climb and electric fencing. At Rhythm and Balance, we pride ourselves on providing a boutique-style environment—a professional yet relaxed atmosphere where your horse is treated like one of our own.
With only 4 client training or sale horse stalls, alongside 3 horses of our own, we are able to offer personalized attention and care. Our long-time friends and clients often tell us they appreciate knowing their horses are genuinely well cared for, and that at Rhythm and Balance, they are never “just another number.”
Facility amenities include:
Renovated 20x60m Dressage Arena w/GGT Footing, Irrigation, and Mirrors

Did you know that your horse should go on multiple different types of surfaces to not only improve their proprioception but to also to condition bone, tissue, ligament, and tendon integrity that are important to their longevity and soundness - this includes hills, varying surfaces, asphalt, grass, natural footings, not just being on the cushy GGT.
Owners Living on Premises, Hands-On Daily Care, Overseeing All Care Throughout Day and Night
High Quality Hay and Feed - Offering Individualized Feeding Programs
12x13 Stalls and Individual Turn-out Paddocks
For the safety of your horse - especially, if it’s here for training or resale, we recommend individual turnout for injury prevention. All horses are next to each other in the paddocks, and have plenty of company.
We also take pride in leaving the horses out as much as possible - this is also another ulcer preventative to ‘keep the gut juices moving’ by the horse having access to walk around and move. The worst thing you can do for a horse’s gut health is to leave them in a stall for extended hours.
Also, in the spirit of motion is lotion, horses should be able to move around as much as possible.
Horses, are all, of course, stalled, based upon weather conditions of when it is bad weather - hot, storming, buggy, frigid temperatures of rain and cold, and after riding to cool down and dry off.
We are also happy to accommodate owners that would like their horses stalled to preserve color or other special needs.
We pride ourselves in having happy, healthy horses.
